Boise State player talks trash, gets knocked out....

Just to clarify things a bit...I'm not defending anything the Oregon player did other than punching the Boise player. The rest of that tirade was nothing short of pitiful. But, the DE that got punched wasn't exactly an innocent bystander...and once he laid his hands on the Oregon player in an attempt to put an exclamation point on his trash talk he should have been prepared for the repercussions. Like a wise old owl once told me: "Those who live in glass houses should not throw stones, and those who talk trash better not have a glass jaw"..lol

Of course the Oragon player is now a marked man the refs will be watching closer and the players from other teams now know that he is someone that will lose his cool when provoked

Ah,you gotta be bigger and better than that IMO. Yeah,the dude shouldn't have been talking trash and disrespecting,but to go thug and sling soupbones isn't the way that you conduct yourself as a man. That right there is what gets you in a jail cell. Everytime something hits you in life that makes you angry,you're going to fight? Maturity will hit him one day perhaps. There are times when a man is justified in throwing a punch (examples being when somebody brings it at you,protecting folks...etc),but to throw a punch over a taunt at a football game (which in the grand scheme of life is meaningless) is absurd.

It's a sporting event...tempers flare all the time. It's not like these guys are fighting in the parking lot or something. It's not like we don't see fights every year in baseball, basketball, football, hockey,..even NASCAR. What I'm saying is this: It's not out of the ordinary so really, what's the big deal ? Guy talks smack, guy gets punched...end of story.

Tempers do flare,but folks are taught sportsmanship as well,and are taught that there are rules and reprecussions that go along with violating terms of sportsmanship. The young man's actions not only reflect badly on himself,but they reflect badly on the University of Oregon whom he is representing. The AD may want to take a look and see if that is what he wants representing him (lest they get the bad rep that Miami had before they cleand up). I know he's human,but it's not just about him. I've seen alot of wasted anger and bravado get folks in way too much trouble over the years (see it on a daily/nightly basis). As an AD,I'd rather see this:

But really, who cares? It was a freakin football game. This is really one of the things that in today's world bothers me...why is everyone so politically correct over every little thing? So these 2 guys showed bad sportsmanship...big deal

You're not seeing the bigger picture. It isn't about political correctness. What it is about is getting an awesome priveledge,yet knowing that there are responsibilities that accompany that priveledge. Oregon gave this young man a gift,but part of the deal is that he conduct himself with class and dignity. If they booted him,I'd understand. It also just isn't a football game: It's a nationally televised event where young,impressionable youth are watching (if not live on Sportscenter later). This tells my young sons who are playing football "If somebody talks smack,go ahead and punch them",and I'm not cool with that. I am cool with sportsmanship,and letting the pads do the talking. The dude's team failed at that (btw the taunter did more than his share of wrong as well,and I don't pity him for getting decked-maybe he will learn as well,but it still didn't give Rocky the right to swing).

Whatever...I never said it was right, but this stuff happens in nearly every sport quite frequently...but y'all folks (and more importantly ESPN) know how to make a mountain out of a mole hill...It's ridiculous IMO. I guess everything anymore has to have a lesson attached to it, but as long as everybody gets a trophy, all's well.

Dude it isn't about getting a trophy. It's about doing things the right way. No need to get defensive (sure isn't like me and you haven't disagreed before). You teach yours to do things/live life your way,and I'll teach mine. BTW: If there aren't lessons attached,how do we learn and grow as people? I don't know about you,but I like to think that I am still evolving,that everytime I look in the mirror,I try to be better today than yesterday. If we can't do that,then what is this life for?
